2017 Asia-Pacific Conference on Economics & Finance (APEF 2017), organized by East Asia Research & supported by BEFfore from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, will be held on the 27th and 28th July 2017 in Singapore. APEF 2017 aims to bring together leading scholars, students and practitioners from Asia and the rest of the world for an academic exchange.

Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Nina Guyon

Department of Economics at the National University of Singapore (NUS)

Dr Nina Guyon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She is also an affiliated researcher at the Interdisciplinary Lab for the Evaluation of Public Policies (LIEPP) at Sciences Po (Paris, France). She has a PhD from the Paris School of Economics (PSE).

Dr Guyon`s research interests include economics of education, urban economics and evaluation of public policies. In her current research, she focuses on the impact of social segregation at school, parental involvement and students’ aspirations on educational achievement, thereby contributing to the international debate on the reduction of social inequalities in education. Her research does not only focus on test scores, but also on children’s well-being. In 2012-2014, she ran a randomized control trial (RCT) in 320 schools in France to measure the impact of a policy aiming at decreasing the prevalence of violence in school. At the same time, she also implemented a survey in 500 primary schools to learn about the impact of a national policy targeting young children in need in the poorest neighborhoods of France. These projects led to the creation of two huge and unique databases on children’s cognitive and non-cognitive skills, which will be an amazing source of information to answer many opened questions in the field of economics of education.

Dr Guyon was awarded the European Economic Association Young Economist Award in 2010, and she received several large grants for her empirical work on education. Her research work has been published in top economics journals, including The Journal of Human Resources and The Review of Economic Studies.

Associate Professor, Director of Centre for Business Economics & Finance Forecasting (BEFfore), UNIMAS

Evan Lau is a well-trained Universiti Putra Malaysia graduate with vast experience and research excellence covering the areas of International Economics with numerous applications of econometrics techniques. Recently he ventured into socioeconomic discipline including Economics of Crime and Suicide. He joined Faculty of Economics and Business Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in 2005 soon after completing his Ph.D in 2004. He servicing as a senior lecturer since 2008 and promoted to Associate Professor from June 2014 to date. He holds the Managing Editor post for International Journal of Business and Society (IJBS), an internationally refereed journal indexed in SCOPUS bibliographic database, Malaysian Citation Centre (MCC), ProQuest publisher, Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory, Cabell’s Directories (Economics, Finance and Management) and EBSCO Host Publishing. He is the director of Centre of Excellence for Business, Economics and Finance Forecasting (BEFfore), UNIMAS which among other serves as a platform and reference point for business, economic and finance forecasting. He was the Visiting Scholar in Faculty of Economics in University of Cambridge. He teaches both the undergraduates and the graduate courses.

To date, Evan Lau has impressive volume of articles in refereed journals (more than 65) and has also presented his research works in many international and local conferences. As part of recognition and internationalization, he was listed as Top 10% economists in Malaysia since 2008 and Top 12% in Asia since 2012 by the Research Papers in Economics RePEc database. He was also cited as Top 10 Most Productive Malaysian Based Authors in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences for the year from 2001 to 2010, published by the Malaysian Citation Centre (MCC), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in 2012. Apart from that, his biography was selected to be listed in the 29th Edition of Who’s Who in the world for 2012. He also indeed contributed to society in terms of economic research studies. Thus, an invitation was extended to him for interviews in several special programs on Budget (2006, 2011), post budget 2013 and live radio interview in 2012 on the Malaysian broadcasting station. His profile is also made available at SCOPUS, RePEc, Research Gate,Google Scholar and Academia where he was among the highly cited authors in UNIMAS.

Dr. Tan Jing Hee

Executive Director & Chairman of its Academic Board of East Asia Institute of Management

Dr. Tan Jing Hee is an Executive Director of East Asia Institute of Management as well as the Chairman of its Academic Board. He started work as a Retail Manager in a family business dealing with pharmaceutical products, toiletries and film development and processing. Dr Tan went on to become Senior Science Master of a government secondary school. After five years, he re-joined the private sector as a Merchandising Manager of Robinsons Departmental Store, with responsibilities over 6 departments in Menswear Division. In 1973, he joined the Singapore Institute of Management, initially as Information, Publications and Research officer before moving into management development responsibilities. During his 25 years stay in the institute, he helped to build it into the premier HRD organisation in the region. While in SIM, Dr Tan was also involved in establishing enterprise-wide MBO systems in six medium and large organisations in Singapore. In 1987, he co-edited a book on Developing Managers In Asia, published by Addison-Wesley. Dr Tan was the Chief Operating Officer of SIM before leaving it to pursue other interests. In 1994, he wrote doctoral thesis on Developing A Factor Model of Management Work in Singapore, for which he was awarded his Ph.D from Henley Mangement College/Brunel University.

Submit your abstract/proposal for APEF before the submission deadline. Please submit using the' Submit Abstract' button below. You will be asked to create your own personal account before you are able to upload your proposal. You can return to the system at any time using your user name and password to edit your information and submission.

 

Author Notification Date: 20th April 2017

Acceptance of proposal for oral presentation will be announced by the author notification date. The presentation instructions and acceptance letter will be emailed to all authors by this date. If your proposal is accepted you will be invited to register for the conference. Upon payment of the registration fee your paper will be scheduled for presentation in the conference.

 

Final Paper Deadline: 19th May 2017

Inclusion of full paper to conference proceedings is optional. If you wish to publish in the conference proceedings, please ensure that a PDF version of the full paper with the copyright form attached is uploaded through the online system by the Final Paper Deadline. Use the World Scientific formatting for your final paper submitted to us. If your abstract is accepted for oral presentation, you are encouraged to submit a full paper before ‘The Final Paper Deadline’. Ensure that your paper is ready to go to press by having thoroughly read the paper for errors.

If you are interested to submit your full paper for inclusion in the conference proceedings, you will need to follow the guidelines given by Springer stated below:

  • Use Springer Basic Style for References
  • Each article must consist of the following: Author Name, Affiliation and Email address, Chapter Abstracts and Keywords
  • All tables, figures, pictures should be accompanied with captions and numbers
  • References should be placed at the end of individual chapters
  • Manuscript must be submitted in MS Word to Anthonytan@ear.com.sg

Presenter

You are a presenter if you are making an oral presentation at the conference.

The author(s) will be required to deliver a PowerPoint presentation of their research work on the conference day. Please bring along a soft copy of your presentation in a USB thumb drive. We strongly recommend bringing a back-up or emailing yourself a copy in advance in case of technical issues.

You will be allocated a 20 minute slot, please take care not to exceed it.    We suggest to aim for a 12-15 minute presentation, so that there will be time for Q&A. Your presentation should be interesting, informative, well-paced and lively.

Poster Presenter

You are a poster presenter if you are presenting your research from a paper poster at the conference.

The paper posters will be placed in the display area and the poster presenters will respond to queries about their research findings during the official networking breaks. Posters presentations must conform to the following:  

  • Your poster must measure NO LARGER than 900mm (W) x 1200mm (H).
  •  Presenters are required to bring their own magnets to affix their poster to the display panel. 

Virtual Presenter

You are a virtual presenter if you are presenting your research at the conference, but not in person.

In consideration of presenters who may be unable to attend the conference in person due to funding or time constraints, Virtual Presentations are allowed in the program. Virtual Presenters will enjoy the same validity (publication, certification, etc.) as the Presenters. We will require the PowerPoint presentation by the registration deadline so that all conference participants will have access to them during and after the conference. Listener

You are a listener if you are attending the conference to listen to the oral presentations and the keynote sessions.

Co-author

You are a coauthor if you are a coauthor of a paper submitted to the conference.

Additional Paper

If an author is making oral presentation for more than one paper at the conference, he/she will need to pay the ‘Additional Paper’ registration fee for the 2nd paper.
